Lensprout

Privacy policy

Short version: Lensprout runs entirely on your computer. It has no servers, no accounts and no analytics, and it never sends your recordings or any other data anywhere.

Last updated 19 October 2026

This policy covers the Lensprout Chrome extension and this website. "We" means the developer of Lensprout.

What the extension collects

Lensprout collects nothing for us. We do not receive, sell, share or analyse any data from the extension. Everything it creates stays in your browser profile on your device.

What the extension stores on your device

  • Recordings: the screen, window, audio, microphone and webcam video you choose to record.
  • Input timeline for automatic zoom: while a recording is running, on web pages in Chrome, Lensprout notes pointer positions and clicks, the cursor shape, where the text cursor is while you type, and the names of keyboard shortcuts you press (for example "Ctrl+C"). It does not record the text you type. Password, one-time code and payment card fields are skipped entirely.
  • Projects and settings: your edits, style presets, recorder preferences, theme and font choice.
  • Exports: MP4 and GIF files you create, until you download or clear them.

This data lives in the extension's own storage (IndexedDB, the Origin Private File System and chrome.storage.local). Other websites and extensions cannot read it. You can delete any recording in the library. Uninstalling the extension or clearing its site data removes everything.

Network access

The extension makes no network requests to us or to anyone else. Recording, editing and exporting all happen locally. Export files are saved only where you choose to download them.

Why the extension asks for each permission

  • Screen and window capture (desktopCapture): to record the screen or window you pick in Chrome's picker.
  • Access to web pages (http/https hosts, scripting, activeTab): to show the countdown on your page and to note clicks and typing positions for automatic zoom, only while you record.
  • Tabs and navigation (tabs, webNavigation): to find the page you are recording and keep following it when it navigates.
  • Display information (system.display): to line up pointer positions with the screen being recorded.
  • Storage (storage, unlimitedStorage): to keep recordings and projects on your device. Videos can be large.
  • Camera and microphone: only when you choose a device in the recorder; Chrome asks for your permission first.

This site has no analytics, no tracking cookies and no advertising. It is a static site hosted on Vercel. Like any web host, Vercel may process standard request data such as your IP address and browser type to deliver and protect the site; seeVercel's privacy policy.

Children

Lensprout does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new "last updated" date. Because we collect no data, changes cannot affect data we hold about you.
